When asked by patients which is better - Erespal or Askoril (, Lazolvan, etc.), there is no clear answer. Drugs act differently on the body due to its individual characteristics.

Erespal is a bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory drug intended for the treatment of inflammatory diseases upper and lower respiratory tract, accompanied by severe inflammation, swelling and bronchospasm. It contains the active substance - fenspiride hydrochloride, which belongs to pharmacological group- H1-antihistamines and is therefore an anti-inflammatory agent, with an antihistamine, myotropic antispasmodic and antiexudative mechanism of action and has a bronchodilator effect. Therefore, this drug is one of the drugs included in regimens for the complex treatment of bronchial asthma.

Phakmacodynamics of Erespal

The mechanism of action of erespal is its pronounced anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous and antispasmodic effect on the mucous membrane of the upper and lower respiratory tract, as well as its anticonstrictor effect on the bronchial tree. Its action is based on active blockade of H1-histamine receptors, inhibition of arachidonic acid metabolism and blockade of alpha-adrenergic receptors. The effect of fenspiride on arachidonic acid metabolism occurs indirectly through calcium metabolism, which is a regulator of the activity of phospholipase A, which promotes the formation of arachidonic acid. Thus, it antagonizes the mediators of allergy and inflammation - histamine, serotonin and bradykinin, reduces the production of leukotrienes and prostaglandins, which are also stimulated by histamine, and reduces the secretion of bronchial glands and has a chemotactic effect. When used in high doses fenspiride significantly inhibits the production of inflammatory agents in the mucous membranes: free radicals, cytokines, tumor necrosis factor alpha and arachidonic acid metabolites. Some of these inflammatory factors have a bronchoconstrictor effect, so a decrease in their production causes an antiasthmatic and bronchodilator effect. In this regard, the activity and release of a number of factors that contribute to the development of inflammation, hypersecretion of inflammatory agents and bronchial obstruction decreases. It also has a paperrine-like myotropic antispasmodic effect.

Fenspiride in its mechanism of action differs from all anti-inflammatory drugs (non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), since it has an original effect on the inflammatory process and affects all inflammatory mediators.

Pharmacokinetics of Erespal

Erespal has good absorption from gastrointestinal tract. Its maximum concentration in the blood plasma after taking the syrup is achieved after 2.3 hours, and when taken in tablet form - after 6 hours, on average from 0.5 to 8 hours and depends on the absorption capacity of the intestine. Erespal is excreted from the body 90% by the kidneys, and 10% through the intestines. The half-life of the drug from the body is 12 hours.

Instructions for use of Erespal

Due to its high efficiency, excellent anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator effects, this drug is used for most diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract as an anti-inflammatory, bronchodilator, anti-edematous, antispasmodic agent.

Indications:

  1. Acute nasopharyngitis, acute laryngitis, acute laryngotracheitis;
  2. Acute nasotracheobronchitis, acute bronchitis, acute obstructive bronchitis;
  3. Acute otitis media, acute sinusitis of various etiologies;
  4. Bronchospastic syndrome in acute respiratory infections, acute respiratory viral infections;
  5. Bronchial asthma;
  6. Measles, whooping cough (to eliminate respiratory disorders and bronchospasm);
  7. Infectious diseases of the respiratory tract, complicated by spastic cough syndrome and bronchial obstruction;
  8. Chronic nasopharyngitis, chronic laryngitis and chronic laryngotracheitis;

Contraindications

Contraindications for use are individual hypersensitivity to active substance medicinal product - fenspiride hydrochloride or another component included in the medicinal product (most often sunset yellow CFC dye or propylarbenam).

Taking the tablet form of the drug is also contraindicated for children under 14 years of age.

Special instructions and interactions with other drugs

This drug should be taken with caution in patients with fructose intolerance, with glucose-galactose maladsorption, in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus and with isomaltose deficiency (due to the presence of sucrose in the composition of the drug).

It is not recommended to take the drug together with acetylsalicylic acid and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs due to the possibility of developing allergic reactions, including bronchospasm.

It is also not recommended to prescribe erespal together with a sedative group of drugs, since their interaction can lead to potentiation of the sedative effect and cause severe weakness and drowsiness (histamine H1 receptor blockers have their own sedative effect).

For the same reason, it is not advisable to combine the use of erespal and alcohol.

For inflammatory diseases of infectious origin, complicated bacterial infection, erespal is prescribed in combination with antibacterial drugs.

Side effects of Erespal

Side effects of erespal include changes in the central nervous system in the form of drowsiness and dizziness;

from the cardiovascular system - palpitations and moderate tachycardia, which decreases with decreasing dose of the drug;

from the outside digestive systemgastrointestinal disorders, nausea, epigastric pain, sometimes vomiting and diarrhea;

Allergic reactions may also occur in case of individual sensitivity to the drug in the form of erythema, urticaria, angioedema, as well as asthenia, fatigue, and fixed erythema pigmentosa.

If any of these symptoms occur, you should immediately stop using Erespal and consult your doctor.

Overdose

An overdose of a drug occurs when the drug is taken in dosages exceeding the average daily allowable dose, when the drug accumulates in the body, which occurs when it is taken for a long time or when excretion is impaired.

Symptoms of an overdose of erespal are agitation or drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and sinus tachycardia.

Sometimes situations arise when Small child drinks a large amount of medicine. In the case of erespal, this can be extremely dangerous due to its adrenergic blocking and histamine blocking effects, which can provoke an attack of sinus tachycardia, accompanied by severe weakness, drowsiness or overexcitation.

All organs and systems of the child’s body are characterized by ongoing differentiation, and therefore insufficient stability and a paradoxical reaction to a large simultaneous administration of the drug, and the delicate gastric mucosa contributes to faster absorption of the drug into the bloodstream. Therefore, if a situation arises where a child, out of ignorance or out of curiosity, takes a large dose of erespal, it is necessary to immediately contact medical institution behind medical care for gastric lavage and, if necessary, symptomatic drug therapy, detoxification measures and ECG monitoring.

Also no less dangerous when taken large quantity drug, both in children and adults, especially in old age - the occurrence of allergic reactions in the form of angioedema or Quincke's edema, which are immediate-type allergic reactions and are characterized by a rapid course. Therefore, if they occur, you must immediately contact a medical facility.

Instructions for using erespal during lactation and pregnancy

Taking this drug during pregnancy is not recommended, as there is always a risk of adverse effects of the drug on the embryo (when used in early stages) or on the developing fetus (for more late stages pregnancy). Some sources contain data on the teratogenic effect of fenspiride hydrochloride with the development of an anomaly of the upper palate in the form of a “cleft palate”. But therapy with erespal is not a basis for termination of pregnancy, since in general there is no clinical data on its teratogenic effect, and in this case the protective properties of the fetoplacental barrier and the individual characteristics of the course of pregnancy and the activity of the mother’s excretory systems should not be excluded.

Also, when breastfeeding a child, taking Erespal is not recommended, since the active components of the drug that enter breast milk can enter the child’s body and adversely affect its organs and systems, in particular causing increased drowsiness or overexcitation, as well as sinus tachycardia. Reception this drug is possible only if you temporarily refuse breastfeeding, due to the fact that studies on the concentration of the active substance in breast milk have not been conducted for a child, especially a newborn, they may exceed the maximum permissible dose of the drug for his weight.

Practice of using erespal and reviews

Erespal is an excellent development of the pharmacological company Servier Laboratories, introduced in Russia back in 1998 and today is a very effective and popular drug that is widely used in medical practice - therapy, otolaryngology and pediatrics, as an anti-inflammatory and bronchodilator drug. It is prescribed for inflammatory diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract of infectious and allergic origin, which are accompanied by spasm and severe cough - acute and chronic laryngitis, pharyngitis, laryngotracheitis, acute, chronic and obstructive bronchitis. It is also effective as a symptomatic remedy used in complex therapy with severe cough and spasm of the larynx and bronchi with whooping cough and parawhooping cough, spasmodic cough with measles and parainfluenza infection. Erespal has a potentiating anti-inflammatory effect when used together with antibacterial drugs for infectious and colds of the upper and lower respiratory tract, complicated by bacterial infection.

This drug is very effective in complex and maintenance therapy regimens for bronchial asthma, which is due to its dual mechanism of action at all stages of development pathological process with this disease - bronchodilation, inhibition of mucus production, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effect, as well as inhibition of the production of histamine and serotonin, which potentiates its antiallergic effect.

Erespal is used in otolaryngology for the treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory processes of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity - sinusitis and rhinitis. It is used in combination with other drugs: antibacterial, desensitizing and local anti-inflammatory drugs. In this case, erespal, which has an anti-inflammatory effect on the mucous membrane paranasal sinuses nose and stimulating effect on mucociliary transport, has proven itself in the treatment of purulent and pollipous sinusitis and rhinosinusitis.

Its effective practical use in combination with desensitizing drugs, allows us to recommend erespal for the treatment of patients with combined chronic inflammatory process in the upper and lower respiratory tract, including bronchial asthma, subacute laryngotracheitis and exacerbations of chronic laryngitis.

At clinical application the drug has excellent tolerability, even with long-term use.

Erespal storage conditions

Like all medications erespal should be used only before its expiration date. It can be stored for no more than three years in a sealed form.

Erespal reviews

The drug is “rubbish”, after taking one pill my blood pressure jumped, my heart rate increased, and all the signs described above, I threw it to hell in the trash! On Monday I’ll go to the therapist and ask why the hell she prescribed this crap for me, knowing that I have a problem with blood pressure?! Be careful, take care of yourself!

The drug is good. The only negative is that I get itching from this drug, apparently a reaction to some components. But between the cough and the itching, I chose the itching. In general, you can use it - but wisely. It is imperative to read the instructions, all the contraindications are listed there, and who is generally undesirable to drink it, and what side effects there are. Better yet, consult a doctor.

I was prescribed for the treatment of bilateral purulent sinusitis, the first day there was a slight palpitation, on the second I drank in the morning and at lunch, I could no longer get out of bed, my heart was jumping out of my chest so that I could not walk or lie down, I did not drink in the evening. In the morning I went to the doctor, changed the drug and immediately felt better.

We took it for the flu, the syrup is not for the faint of heart, let me tell you. It’s a serious thing, of course - it relieves a wet cough perfectly, it removes inflammatory processes well, but the instructions with contraindications are downright scary to read. While we were drinking with the child, we were always afraid that one of the symptoms would appear. But I was lucky, everything went well. In general, all medications have certain contraindications, the main thing is not to overdo it with the dosage and carefully monitor the condition during the intake process.

Yesterday I took only 3 tablets according to the doctor's prescription. After lunch, my muscles began to ache terribly. At night I rubbed it with a rub. By morning the pain had not gone away. I had tachycardia, but my heartbeat didn’t bother me. And at 3 am the stomach upset began. Today I will ask the doctor for a replacement. It’s a pity that I didn’t read the reviews. Organisms are different, the reactions are also different. Be careful and healthy.

The contraindications there, of course, are not too bad - on the other hand, you can drink syrup from almost zero age. The kind of drugs that could be prescribed to very little ones, once or twice, is too numerous. So here - depending on your luck. I think the main thing is not to give such drugs to a child if he has at least a hint of contraindications (diabetes, or sensitivity to fructose). One tablet is quite enough, especially since the minimum dose in the instructions is always somewhat too high. Divide the tablet in half and drink the drug twice a day. What makes Erespal especially good is that it is a real salvation for dry coughs that turn into bronchospasm. If you are afraid, start taking half a tablet a day; if there are no side effects, you can gradually increase the dose.

I read the reviews in shock what happened to you, the doctor prescribed Erespal, I wasn’t even treated for the entire course - I was cured, everything is fine, I don’t complain about anything, no pressure or shaking - maybe you took it with what other medicine? Regular paracetamol-based tablets are not able to cure all colds, which is why antibiotics are more effective, but should be taken naturally if prescribed by a doctor.

Erespal is a modern drug used to treat coughs that occur with various inflammatory processes and infections in the respiratory tract. Cough is one of the most unpleasant consequences of the flu. And although by its nature this is one of the protective mechanisms that helps the body fight infection, it does not make it any easier. Often a cough is accompanied by spasm of the bronchi and obstruction of their patency (bronchoconstriction). Cough is especially dangerous for young children, for whom it causes great suffering.

Description

The main component of the drug is fenspiride hydrochloride. This substance has a triple effect on the body. First, it reduces inflammation. Secondly, it acts on histamine receptors and thereby blocks the production of mucus in the bronchi. Thirdly, it has an antispasmodic effect. Therefore, the use of Erespal contributes to the expansion of the bronchi.

The principle of action of the drug is fundamentally different from the principle of action of other antitussive drugs. They are divided into two large groups. Some of them affect the so-called dry cough, that is, a cough without the formation of sputum. Others help to liquefy this phlegm and remove it from the body.
Erespal does not belong to any of these groups. But this does not prevent him from being highly effective. The reason is that the drug fights not so much the consequences of inflammation as it suppresses the mechanism of its occurrence. In addition, fenspiride suppresses the cough reflex without affecting the corresponding center of the brain.

One of the advantages of the drug is that it can also be useful for viral infections. respiratory infections(ARVI), for which antibiotics do not work. This is achieved due to the fact that it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.

Most of the drug is excreted through the kidneys, and about one tenth through the intestines.

Indications for use:

  • laryngitis
  • pharyngitis
  • bronchial asthma
  • flu
  • sinusitis

A natural question arises: can Erespal serve as a substitute for treating the body with antibiotics? Of course no. Erespal is primarily an antitussive drug and cannot be the only method of treating infectious diseases.

Release forms and composition

The drug is available in two dosage forms: in tablets with a dosage of 80 mg and Erespal for children in the form of syrup in 150 ml bottles. Each box of the drug contains detailed instructions, which should be read carefully.

Compound

Fenspiride hydrochloride is a rather bitter substance. Therefore, the syrup contains many sweeteners and flavorings so that children take the medicine with pleasure.

Composition of the tablet:

  • fenspiride
  • calcium phosphate disubstituted
  • hypromellose
  • povidone
  • colloidal anhydrous silicon
  • Magnesium stearate
  • titanium dioxide
  • glycerol
  • macrogol 6000

The syrup is sold in 150 ml bottles. 1 ml of syrup contains 2 mg of fenspiride.

Other substances included in the syrup:

  • honey flavor
  • licorice root extract
  • glucose
  • anise oil
  • vanillin extract
  • glycerol
  • Sunset Yellow S dye
  • methyl parahydroxybenzoate
  • propyl parahydroxybenzoate
  • saccharin
  • sucrose
  • potassium sorbate
  • distilled water

Erespal is produced by the French pharmaceutical company"Servier Laboratory". This is a proven and reliable supplier. However, as with many other imported medicines, the price of the drug may seem too high. In this case, you can look for analogues of the drug containing fenspiride. Such drugs include the drugs Fenspiride, Erispirus, Codestim, Fosidal and some others. However, when selecting an effective drug, you should focus not only on prices, since drugs of lower cost may be inferior in quality. Other antitussive drugs can hardly replace Erespal, since they do not have an antihistamine and antispasmodic effect.

The drug is sold in pharmacies with a prescription. Erespal is stored at room temperature. The shelf life of tablets is 3 years, syrup - 2 years.

Erespal, instructions for use

Before taking Erespal, you should read the instructions for use that come with the drug. The drug is very well absorbed by the body when taken orally and begins to act after just a few hours. For tablets, the therapeutic effect begins to appear after 2-3 hours, for syrup – after an hour. The maximum effect of the medicine reaches after 6 hours. In case of overdose, consult a doctor.

Instructions for use of tablets for adults

According to the instructions, you need to take two 80 mg tablets per day. In severe cases of the disease, the doctor may increase the frequency of administration to 3 times a day. The duration of treatment is also determined by the doctor. In most cases, improvement occurs within 2-3 days. According to Erespal's instructions, the drug is usually taken before meals.

Erespal tablets are intended for adults only. Children under 14 years of age are prohibited from taking them. To treat children, it is better to use Erespal in syrup form, while following the instructions.

Instructions for use of syrup for children

The dosage of syrup for children depends on the child’s body weight. It must be selected so that daily dose would not exceed 4 mg/kg body weight. Typically, for children weighing less than 10 kg, syrup is prescribed at 2-4 teaspoons per day, and for children heavier than 10 kg - 2-4 tablespoons. Erespal syrup can be taken by children from 2 years of age. A child under 2 years of age should not be given the drug in any form. Adults should take Erespal syrup 2-3 tablespoons (45-90 ml) per day.

Contraindications

The drug has very few contraindications. First of all, it is not recommended to give the drug to children under 2 years of age. Secondly, this is individual intolerance to the active substance and auxiliary components included in the drug. Since the syrup contains sucrose, it is contraindicated for patients with diabetes. Such patients should take tablets.

Interaction with other drugs

If you are taking other cough suppressants at the same time, you should consult your doctor. It is not recommended to take Erespal with sedatives and alcohol, since the drug, as an antihistamine, has its own sedative effect, which will enhance the sedative effect of other drugs.

Also, in the case of simultaneous use of Erespal, alcohol and other sedatives, one should be wary of a deterioration in the reaction rate. This should be taken into account by those who drive vehicles.

Rarely may be observed:

  • allergic reactions, nausea, drowsiness and lethargy
  • moderate tachycardia
  • gastrointestinal disorders
  • epigastric pain
  • drowsiness
