Does codelac contain codeine. Codelac Broncho: instructions for use, analogues and reviews, prices in Russian pharmacies. Indications for the use of the drug

It helps to overcome this complex symptom and fights various respiratory diseases.

It is the property of suppressing the cough reflex that makes it an indispensable drug for every first aid kit.

Cough can occur due to various diseases of the respiratory tract, the most common is SARS.

But it may develop serious illness respiratory organs. It can be like inflammation of the lungs or bronchi. In any case, only the attending physician can make a correct diagnosis, after which an effective treatment will be prescribed.

The cough itself can be of several forms: wet and dry. A wet cough often occurs as a result of the formation of sputum or mucus in the body. This is normal, but when too much sputum is produced, or there are difficulties with its removal, then a prolonged wet cough appears. In this case, it is not suppressed due to the withdrawal of sputum, because its accumulation leads to other complications, and this should not be allowed. To release the bronchi and lungs, drugs are used that thin the mucus and make it easier to endure this process.

Dry cough is not always productive. It is effective only if the respiratory tract at any stage is clogged with a foreign object, for example, food. In other cases, it occurs due to irritation of the larynx, trachea, or lower respiratory tract. It is important that a dry cough turns into a wet one.

Since Codelac broncho is used for dry cough, it is he who is primarily interested. Irritation of the throat or other organ occurs due to infection. This is how pathogenic bacteria multiply, which harm the body, hence pain in respiratory tract.

Codelac broncho: useful information

The drug is an antitussive agent that helps to endure unpleasant effects when the throat is irritated. This medicine acts on the nervous system to dull the sensation of the cough reflex and minimize pain. Especially relevant and effective is the use of coughing attacks that are difficult to stop.

Antitussive action occurs due to the inhibition of the entire cough center.

The drug itself has an extensive spectrum of action and helps not only with all types of coughs. Thanks to the thermopsis herb that is part of the composition, this plant helps in cases where it is necessary to facilitate the process of liquefaction of sputum.

Thermopsis enhances the secretion of bronchial secretions. The cilia themselves in the bronchi are significantly activated and the secretion from the organ is accelerated.

Codelac is used for dry cough, although, having studied the reviews of users and specialists, it can be easily determined that it is no less effective when wet, as it has a significant effect on changing the viscosity and the constituent part of the mucus, which is easier to separate and becomes less viscous. The epithelium of the bronchi also falls under the influence of the drug.

Licorice root also has an effective effect, accelerating and intensifying expectoration. This property is explained by the presence of glycyrrhizin in the plant, which improves the action of the ciliated epithelium in the trachea and bronchi. Stimulates the secretion of mucus in the bronchi. This approach is used to accelerate expectoration and restore the normal functioning of the body.

Using Codelac neo with a dry cough, you can notice a significant relief of the symptoms of the disease. The use of the drug with a wet cough accelerates the course of the disease and separation, sputum output to the outside.

On a note! After taking the drug, its effect can be felt in just 30-60 minutes, and its effect lasts for 2-6 hours. Most often, the effectiveness of the drug lasts for 4 hours.

Composition Codelac broncho

The drug Codelac is prescribed for a dry cough to an adult or a child. Usually it is sold in tablet form, there are also drops and syrups. The packages contain 10-20 tablets. They are most often yellow-brown in color, but not uniform, but with white or brownish patches.

The composition of 1 tablet includes:

  • codeine about 8 mg;
  • licorice root powder, its main part is about 200 mg;
  • sodium bicarbonate 200 mg;
  • powdered thermopsis herb 20 mg.

Each of the presented components has special properties that have a positive effect on the body. It is worth noting that Codelac for dry cough for children is more often prescribed as a syrup (for children from 3 years old) and drops (for babies under 2 years old). As additional composition used in medicine:

  • potato starch (to normalize the condition of the tablets);
  • cellulose in microcrystalline form;
  • talc.

Important! Codelac for dry cough and instructions for use are always included, but the use of the drug without a doctor's recommendation is prohibited.

The drug belongs to codeine, thus, cough is dulled. If you use the medicine in the dosages recommended by the doctor, nothing terrible will happen. But if you exceed the amount of the drug used, side effects may occur, including the effect on the human mind. With prolonged use, addiction may occur.

Licorice root has an expectorant effect with a simultaneous increase in the secretion of the bronchi, has an antispasmodic effect on their smooth muscles. This element is primarily intended for wet coughing and sputum withdrawal.

Sodium bicarbonate helps thin the mucus and enhances its discharge, while changing the composition of sputum in favor of alkali. The work of the ciliated epithelium is stimulated, which contributes to the separation of sputum. This effect allows you to thin the mucus, preparing it for expectoration.

Herb thermopsis promotes irritation of the receptors of the cough center. Codelac neo is more often used for dry coughs, but reviews have shown effectiveness with wet coughs. Thermopsis here is a counterweight to codeine, which stifles coughs.

Methods of using the drug

Codelac is a combination medicine and is suitable for the treatment of any kind of cough. The drug is used most often 2-3 times a day, 1 tablet. Due to the risk of side effects and overdose, its use must be agreed with a doctor who will help you choose the right regimen. In the form of tablets, Codelac is recommended for adults; for children, the drug is available in the form of syrup and drops.

It should be noted a variety of the drug Codelac broncho with thyme for dry cough, thyme also contains an additional range of properties. It helps to expectorate phlegm, contains anti-inflammatory properties and has a bactericidal effect.

The medicine effectively shows itself in several categories at once:

  • helps to suppress cough;
  • especially true for severe seizures;
  • has a mucolytic effect.

All of these features are in demand different types cough.

The main substances are aimed at increasing the production of secretion in the bronchi, thinning sputum, have an anti-inflammatory effect in the respiratory tract and facilitate coughing. At the same time, thanks to codeine, the cough will not bother you so much, as the receptors that are responsible for the perception of the symptom calm down in the brain. You just need to stick to the dosage so that the effect does not expand to other areas of the brain.

The medicine is recommended by doctors for coughs of various etymologies. It is often used as an adjuvant in the treatment of more serious respiratory diseases. It can be used after the end of the course of antibiotics.

Contraindications: what you need to remember?

You can not use Codelac for patients who have hypersensitivity or intolerance to any component of the drug, this information should be reflected in the anamnesis. It is forbidden to use the drug in the form of syrup or tablets for children under the age of 2 years, for them there is a drug in drops.

When treated with Codelac, headaches, increased drowsiness may occur, dyspeptic symptoms are observed, acidity in the stomach may worsen, and digestion is disturbed.

Reception of Codelac is prohibited in the following cases:

  • when breastfeeding;
  • with respiratory failure;
  • age under 2 years;
  • with asthma and its manifestations;
  • incompatible with alcohol, as the effect of codeine is enhanced, alcohol intoxication comes earlier, and breathing difficulties may occur;
  • contraindicated in the use of general analgesics.

The drug is strongly not recommended during lactation pregnancy. The most dangerous are the 1st and 3rd trimesters, as the threat of miscarriage increases. Some components can cross the placenta. During lactation, drug treatment is also unacceptable, since codeine can pass into breast milk and make it difficult for the child to breathe.

Do not use the drug and other codeine drugs long time, as it can cause codeine addiction. If the problem persists, the drug is canceled and a new drug without codeine is prescribed.

The tool belongs to the group of substances with a potent narcotic effect.

Compatibility with other drugs

In case of overdoses, hypersensitivity to components or prolonged use, side effects may occur:

  1. Depression of the central nervous system in the field of breathing, while shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, or decreased sensitivity may occur. May cause headaches, drowsiness. It is accompanied by a prolonged migraine and is usually eliminated by reducing the dosage or completely refusing to take the drug.
  2. Digestion worsens, can cause dyspepsia, constipation, gag reflexes, and constant nausea appears.

Clinical and pharmacological group Codelac

The drug has an expectorant, as well as antitussive effect, thanks to the components that make up its composition.

Codelac broncho

Codelac broncho is an antitussive agent that has a combined composition. The drug acts on the central nervous system (central nervous system) to help overcome coughing fits. The main antitussive property is provided by the method of reducing the excitability of the cough center.

The broncho substances that are part of Codelac have a certain effect on the body, due to which coughing is eliminated. The composition of the thermopsis herb includes substances - isoquinoline alkaloids, which irritate the respiratory center, and also stimulate the vomiting center. This plant helps to facilitate expectoration of sputum, while the secretion of bronchial glands increases significantly, the activity of the ciliated epithelium increases, and the evacuation of secretions in the bronchi is accelerated.

Such a substance included in Codelac broncho, like sodium bicarbonate, significantly affects the change in the composition of the mucus secreted in the bronchi, with a shift to the alkaline side, while the viscosity of the secreted sputum decreases, while the function of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchial cavity is stimulated. Codelac broncho should not be used in doses exceeding those recommended, since this may inhibit the respiratory centers, as well as the effect on the digestive organs in the direction of oppression. Such a consequence as miosis is not observed too often. In rare cases, nausea, vomiting, dyspeptic symptoms are observed. In the case of taking a small dose of codeine, a decrease in the secretion of bronchial glands does not cause such consequences as respiratory depression, impaired function of the ciliated epithelium of the bronchi. If you use the substance codeine in the composition medicinal product for a long time, drug dependence is possible. Such an agent has an effective expectorant property. plant origin, like licorice root, which is explained by the content of glycyrrhizin in the composition, while the activity of the ciliated epithelium in the trachea and in the bronchial cavity is stimulated. At the same time, the secretion of the bronchial mucosa is greatly enhanced.

Licorice root has an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscles of the bronchi. Codelac has the property of improving the discharge of mucus during coughing from the respiratory tract by weakening the pronounced cough reflex. The maximum effect is noted half an hour or an hour after the drug is taken orally. The continuation of the action lasts an average of about four hours, from two to six. Differences in the degree of action depend on the individual characteristics of the organism of a particular patient, which determines the degree of absorption of the substances included in the drug.

Doses and methods of application

It is customary to use the drug Codelac inside two or three times a day, one tablet per day. This drug is prescribed for the treatment various diseases respiratory organs associated with pronounced cough symptoms. At the same time, an expectorant effect is manifested, an attack of coughing is suppressed. All the main substances that are part of the drug affect specific parts of the brain responsible for the appearance of such a phenomenon as coughing, and also contribute to its suppression. The substances that make up the drug facilitate the effect of cleansing the bronchial cavity from the presence of a mucous secretion. A substance such as sodium bicarbonate has an effect on the properties of the mucous secretion, the thermopsis grass can significantly enhance the appearance of the mucous secretion in the bronchial cavity, the plant component - licorice root allows you to eliminate inflammatory process and also promotes vasodilation. Codeine, which is part of the drug, will contribute to the elimination of cough. The main reason for prescribing such a tablet preparation is a cough of various etiologies. After a course of correct administration of the drug, in accordance with the instructions for use, there is a relief in the patient's condition.

The drug Codelac is prescribed to eliminate the cough effect, which is primarily due to its favorable composition - plant components: thermopsis grass, licorice root. These substances are often used for the preparation of drugs for herbal medicine. Their popularity is due to the high effect, as well as a small number of contraindications for use. The drug Codelac is used at a dose of one tablet twice a day or three times a day.

Basic rules for taking Codelac

This drug is prescribed to eliminate the cough effect, improve sputum discharge by ingestion of tablets, one tablet two or three times a day. The course of treatment in this case is several days. You can not exceed the course of admission, since this approach may not be entirely acceptable and lead to a number of complications regarding the body. It is also impossible to exceed the indicated dose of the drug, since such an approach can lead to various kinds of serious health consequences. Adults can take such a drug at a dose of not more than 200 mg during the day and at a dose of not more than 50 mg at a time.

Contraindications to the use of Codelac

The drug Codelac in tablet form is forbidden to be given to children under the age of two years. Also, special care should be taken when taking the drug to patients who have a history of the presence of allergic reactions and intolerance to the funds that make up the drug Codelac. It is important to take into account such possible manifestations as a result of taking the drug, such as drowsiness, pain like migraine, dyspeptic manifestations, indigestion. The main contraindications for taking the drug Codelac:

  • respiratory failure,
  • pregnancy,
  • lactation period (breastfeeding),
  • children's age up to 2 years,
  • bronchial asthma,
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug,
  • alcohol intake,
  • taking centrally acting analgesics (buprenorphine, nalbuphine, pentazocine).

People suffering from diseases such as impaired renal function should be aware that codeine is excreted more slowly, in connection with this fact, it is necessary to increase the time between successive doses, the interval of this drug.

Side effects of Codelac

Patients taking Codelac should take into account possible negative manifestations regarding the digestive system, such as dyspepsia, as well as constipation, gag reflex, nausea. The central nervous system can also respond to medication with headaches and drowsiness. Phenomena such as urticaria, itching of the skin and other skin manifestations, including allergic ones, are not excluded. You can not take the drug Codelac for a long time in order to avoid the manifestation of symptoms of addiction - codeine addiction.

Children under the age of two years are strictly prohibited from using the drug Codelac. For children older than two years of age, it is allowed to take this drug in the form of phytosyrups. It should be borne in mind that young children often suffer from bouts of nausea and vomiting during coughing, which is due to significant irritation of the larynx. If tablets are used to treat cough, this can cause an attack of nausea, which is why children often refuse to take the tablet form of the drug. Syrup Codelac allows you to eliminate the cough effect to a large extent without the manifestation of any negative reactions. Children should take this drug at night, about forty minutes before bedtime, which will fully provide a good sleep for the child, eliminating the cough effect.

Codelac during pregnancy and lactation

The drug Codelac should not be used during pregnancy, as well as during breastfeeding. It is especially unsafe to use such a drug in the first and third semesters of pregnancy, since there is a possible threat of miscarriage. There is a possibility of penetration of the substance of the drug through the placenta. It is also not recommended to take while breastfeeding. this drug, as this can lead to oppression of the respiratory centers of the child.

If there are no other options and taking the drug Codelac is extremely important for the treatment of a pregnant woman, you can use the medicine with extreme caution, but in exceptional cases. This ban is explained by the fact that codeine, which is part of the Codelac preparation, is related to a group of substances that are potent drugs. The use of the drug does not exclude the possibility of violations of the proper development of the embryo. It is permissible to have a child suffering from mental deficiency if a woman takes Codelac during pregnancy. Complications include malformations of intrauterine development of the fetus, such as heart disease, as well as the appearance of cardiac arrhythmias.

codelac for cough

Respiratory diseases are among the most common. They affect both adults and children and are often accompanied by cough reflexes that help clear the infection from the body. These diseases are more common in people who have low immunity. Cough, which is characterized by painful prolonged manifestations, should be suppressed with the help of medicines. Codelac refers to drugs that can be used to eliminate cough. It has an expectorant property, as well as an analgesic and relieves inflammation. However, caution should be used to treat Codelac cough, taking into account possible contraindications and side effects.

Interaction of the drug Codelac with other drugs

It is not recommended to take Codelac at the same time as other drugs. medicines to avoid depression of the central nervous system, increased hypnotic action, depression of the respiratory center. It is especially not recommended to take Codelac together with analgesic drugs, sedatives, antihistamines, psychotropic and anxiolytic drugs.

Codelac

Composition

1 tablet of Codelac contains:
Codeine - 8 mg;
Sodium bicarbonate - 200 mg;
Licorice root (powder) - 200 mg;
Herbs lanceolate thermopsis (powder) - 20 mg;
Additional ingredients.

pharmachologic effect

Codelac is a combined antitussive drug. Codelac contains codeine, sodium bicarbonate, as well as thermopsis grass and licorice root.
Codeine is a substance of the group of narcotic analgesics with a pronounced antitussive effect. Codeine reduces the excitability of the cough center, reducing non-productive cough, regardless of etiology. Codeine in therapeutic doses practically does not depress respiratory center and does not affect intestinal motility. When using the recommended doses of codeine, there is no decrease in the function of the ciliated epithelium and bronchial secretion does not change.
Thermopsis grass contains a number of biologically active substances that have a stimulating effect on the respiratory and vomiting center. In addition, the thermopsis herb has a pronounced expectorant effect, which is realized by increasing the function of the bronchial glands and the activity of the ciliated epithelium.

Sodium bicarbonate contributes to a change in the pH of bronchial mucus to the alkaline side, as a result of which the viscosity of sputum, which has an acidic environment, decreases. Sodium bicarbonate somewhat stimulates the motor function of the ciliated epithelium.
Licorice root has a pronounced expectorant effect, which is realized by stimulating the ciliated epithelium and enhancing the secretory activity of the bronchial glands. Licorice root has some antispasmodic effect and reduces the tone of smooth muscles.
The therapeutic effect of Codelac develops within 0.5-1 hour and lasts up to 6 hours.
The pharmacokinetics of the drug Codelac is not presented.

Indications for use

Codelac is used for symptomatic therapy patients suffering unproductive cough, which is accompanied by diseases of the respiratory tract of various etiologies.

Mode of application

Codelac tablets are intended for oral administration. The drug is taken regardless of the meal. Tablets are washed down with a sufficient amount drinking water or tea. The duration of therapy and the dose of the drug Codelac is determined by the doctor.
Adults are usually prescribed 1 tablet of Codelac twice or thrice a day.
The maximum single dose of codeine is 50 mg.
Maximum daily dose codeine is 200 mg.
The recommended duration of therapy with Codelac is 3 to 5 days.
Patients with reduced renal function may require a dose adjustment of Codelac (as a rule, such patients are advised to increase the interval between doses of Codelac).

Side effects

When taking Codelac, patients may develop such undesirable effects due to the active components of the tablets:
From the digestive tract: vomiting, stool disorders, nausea, pain in the epigastric region, dryness of the oral mucosa.
From the nervous system: drowsiness, dizziness, decreased visual acuity, headache.
Allergic reactions: urticaria, skin rash, angioedema.
With prolonged use of Codelac, patients may develop drug dependence on codeine.
Codelac may be the reason for getting positive results doping control.

Codelac is not prescribed to patients with known hypersensitivity to codeine or other tablet components.
Codelac is not used for the treatment of patients suffering from respiratory failure, chronic alcoholism and bronchial asthma.
Codelac in pediatric practice use with caution and only for the treatment of children older than 2 years.

Caution should be exercised when prescribing Codelac to patients suffering from impaired renal function (depending on the severity of impaired renal function, dose adjustment of Codelac may be required).
With caution, Codelac is prescribed to patients with increased intracranial pressure.
During therapy with Codelac, it is recommended to avoid driving a car and operating potentially unsafe devices.

Pregnancy

Codelac is not prescribed to pregnant women and women who are breastfeeding.

drug interaction

Codelac must not be administered in combination with other drugs that depress the central nervous system, including hypnotics and sedatives, ethyl alcohol, antihistamines, central analgesics, anxiolytics and antipsychotics.
Chloramphenicol potentiates the action of codeine by slowing down its metabolism.
High doses of codeine with combined use increase plasma concentrations of cardiac glycosides.
Astringents, enveloping and enterosorbent agents, when combined with Codelac, reduce the plasma concentrations of its active components.
Codelac is not recommended to be administered simultaneously with expectorant and mucolytic drugs.

Overdose

When taking excessive doses of Codelac, patients may develop symptoms of codeine overdose, including drowsiness, skin itching, vomiting, arrhythmias, bradycardia, bradypnea, nystagmus and bladder atony.
The specific antidote for codeine is naloxone. In case of overdose, gastric lavage and the appointment of enterosorbent agents are indicated. If necessary, take measures to maintain the function of cardio-vascular system and respiratory function. In case of severe overdose, in addition to the introduction of a specific antidote, symptomatic therapy is prescribed. Attention!
Description of the drug Codelac"on this page is a simplified and expanded version official instructions by application. Before purchasing or using the drug, you should consult your doctor and read the annotation approved by the manufacturer.

Unproductive cough of various etiologies can occur with a number of diseases. Most often, this type of cough occurs when viral infections upper respiratory tract, allergies, side effects certain drugs, such as alpha blockers. Often, a non-productive type of cough appears as a result of bronchiolitis. Feature such a cough is the absence of sputum, that is, in this case, the treatment is aimed at suppressing the cough center. One of effective means to relieve this symptom is the drug Codelac.

Indications for use

Therapy of dry cough, symptomatic.

Release form, composition and packaging

Drug Codelac for oral administration issued in the following forms:

  • thermopsis extract - 10 mg;
  • licorice root - 200 mg;
  • thyme (as extract) - 1000 mg.

The drug belongs to the clinical and pharmacological group of antitussive and expectorant effects.

pharmachologic effect

Codelac is a means of combined action. The main substance that depresses the cough center is codeine, which belongs to the opium alkaloids. When it enters the human body, it significantly reduces the excitability of the cough center, but at the same time it depresses the respiratory function less, unlike morphine. In parallel, codeine reduces intestinal motility, suppresses the gag reflex and nausea.

The thermopsis herb extract, on the contrary, excites the respiratory center and stimulates the gag reflex, contributing to an increase in the secretion of the bronchial glands, which leads to an improvement in the evacuation of the secret.

Licorice root increases the activity of the ciliated epithelium and also enhances the secretion of membranes in the respiratory tract. Thus, there is an increase in the amount of mucus and its liquefaction, which contributes to expectoration and facilitated evacuation.

The action of sodium bicarbonate is based on the alkalization of mucus in the respiratory tract, which leads to a decrease in its viscosity. Combinatorial action with active substances licorice root leads to the prevention of accumulation of mucus in the respiratory lumen, in the case of the formation of thick sputum in certain diseases and their complications.

This combination active substances The drug Codelac leads to a multi-vector effect: complications are excluded due to the inhibitory effect of codeine on the respiratory center in case of incorrect diagnosis, due to the fact that the composition of the drug includes substances that stimulate sputum discharge, while there is no excessive increase in its volume, as when taking classic expectorants. Ultimately, it is possible to achieve a clear reduction in cough and at the same time achieve sputum discharge, if any.

Dosage

Adults Codelac in tablet form take one tablet 3 times a day.

  • 5 ml - for children 2-6 years old;
  • 10 ml - 5-8 years;
  • 15 ml - 8-12 years;
  • 20 ml - 12-16 years old.

Adults can also take syrup at a dosage of 20 ml. For children and adults, the frequency of administration is 2-3 times a day, depending on the condition.

Overdose

If the indicated doses are exceeded, the following negative effects may be observed: drowsiness; nausea, vomiting, headache, severe incoordination. To eliminate these phenomena, a reception is carried out activated carbon, gastric lavage, administration of codeine antagonists (naloxone).

Interaction with other drugs

Simultaneous medication with other drugs that depress the central nervous system and respiratory center can increase the sedative effect. Care must be taken when treating with antihistamines, antipsychotics and sedatives.

Levomycetin (chloramphenicol) slows down the transformation of codeine, thereby enhancing the effect of its administration. On the contrary, codeine can enhance the action of cardiac glycosides (digoxin), due to a decrease in peristalsis in the intestinal sections and increased absorption of glycosides.

Absorbent and enveloping substances reduce the level of absorption of codeine and reduce the therapeutic effect.

You should be aware that the simultaneous intake of ethanol-containing liquids and Codelac enhances the psychomotor effect of ethanol.

Pregnancy and lactation

The use of the drug Codelac at any stage of pregnancy has a strong contraindication.

Side effects

The side effect of this drug is similar to the effect of an overdose and can be expressed in the form of constipation, drowsiness, skin itching. Sometimes there is nausea followed by vomiting. Observations show that during long-term therapy with Codelac, dependence on this agent develops.

Contraindications
